Just Say “No” to David’s Bridal Satin!

One of the more recent trends I’ve noticed in the wedding world is the mismatched, eclectic, yet still color coordinated wedding party wear. I think it is absolutely fabulous. How often does a bride tell her bridesmaids, ” You can shorten it and it will look so great as a party dress!” Let’s be honest, that never happens. A $50 dry-cleaning bill later, and it will forever sit in the back of your closet until your little family members want to play dress up. I think, when you allow your wedding party to choose the style of dress, while you maintain a color palate requirement, everyone will look better and feel more comfortable. That tea-length strapless satin number DOES NOT look good on everyone, my Brides-To-Be! I have composed a collection of a few great scenarios of the mismatched wedding party. Enjoy Dolls !

Ciao for now !

Veiled or Unveiled ? That is the question

Brides today have far more creative wiggle room as I call it, than they ever have before. Wedding traditions are not as strict, originality is sought after, and a bride is always secretly trying to make her wedding something that no one has ever seen before. With the creativity and originality, a bride will often stray from the traditional wedding attire, mostly her veils or other accessories. I have searched high and low for some of my very favorite eccentric veil or anti-veil ideas! From bird cage style in half and full, cathedral length, double tier cathedral, no veil at all, lace trimmed, waterfall, your options are endless. I hope you enjoy! If any of you would like to know where I found some of these, please do not hesitate to ask!

Honoring Your Loved One’s Who Have Passed

This is always a difficult subject to discuss with your families. When someone very close to you has passed away that you wish to remember at your wedding, there are many tasteful, non-depressing ways to do it. It is important that this be subtle, but significant. Some ideas are to incorporate a photo or your loved ones wedding ring attached to your bouquet, light candles with your loved ones name on it, place a photo or a rose where your loved one would sit during the ceremony and reception, wrap a ribbon around a tree outside, or acknowledge them on your program or invitation. Below are some very tasteful, but significant ways to honor those who have passed.

Elegant Arbors and Not So Classic Chuppahs

The visual center of your entire wedding ceremony is, of course, the bride and groom, but whats surrounding the bride and groom is just as important. When I scroll through wedding photos and notice a bridesmaid slouching, or a groomsman picking his teeth it pains me. The number one thing I ALWAYS tell a wedding party is that they must always look lovingly towards the bride and groom because you never know what photo you may be in. Even worse than the wedding party however, who can be cropped out of the photo if need be, is a hideous arch, chuppah, arbor, floral arrangement, or whatever you choose because that will be in EVERY photo of the bride and groom during the wedding ceremony. It is important for a backdrop to be tasteful, not too large, and to match not only the decor, but the bridal gown as well. Many backdrops can be done very reasonably by dressing up a basic wire arch with some grandiose fabric, branches, flowers, or even jewels. If the bride to be is staying on a DIY budget, I always suggest some dried branches or some beautiful potted trees that can be reused in the garden later. Below, I have added some innovative and beautiful, edgy and elegant ideas.

Why Hire a Wedding Planner ?

Well let me tell you dolls!
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. Planning your wedding is not for the faint of heart; it requires a lot of time, energy and resources, which is why hiring a wedding planner is practically an unwritten law. If you want to avoid a stint in the psych ward, bankruptcy, family feuds, and – don’t even think it! – calling off the biggest party of your life, consider hiring a wedding planner to avoid headaches and any potential for disaster. If that doesn’t convince you, here are some more reasons why!

1. She saves you time. An average wedding takes a single individual 200 plus hours. A good planner will expedite that process by providing you with lists, vendors, and ideas that you don’t have to scour the web for! Most of us work, honey ! Who has time to plan a wedding ?

2. She saves you sanity. You called the church where you want the ceremony, and it’s already booked. You found your dream dress, but it’s $1000 over your budget. Your fiancé is begging to have his ex-con uncle act as best man. You’re at your wits end, and ready to throw in the towel. Wait! A wedding planner’s job is to listen to your needs and wants, and then deliver. They know where to find great dresses at lower prices, available venues that you may have never even considered, and they can help you navigate the strange etiquette that may occur.

3. She orchestrates from rehearsal through the end of reception. Do you want to be responsible for organizing rehearsal or making sure the bridal party is properly lined up? How about making sure that the guest who had a little too much to drink departs safely? Wedding planners orchestrate from rehearsal through the end of the reception, ensuring everything goes off without a hitch!

4. She keeps you on track. She keeps all of your timelines and other annoying details
, and checklists. Do we know anyone who likes them? And timelines. “Who has time to think of these boring things? I’m getting married!” I recall one bride saying. Actually, you might not be getting married after all if the minister does not show up. Timelines are critical. Timelines are necessary. And timelines keep your wedding planner sane. She thrives on them. You, however, should never be subjected to them. These are the things a bubbling bride should be kept far away from. They will certainly kill the excitement.

5. She makes your dream a reality. Your ideas are fabulous. But they are only the foundation of your theme. Remember: They are only ideas and pictures ripped out of magazines. Brides have ended up blowing their budget on one item to the detriment of the whole wedding. This is where your wedding planner becomes your magician. Knowing all the tricks and resources, your wedding planner can create a theme that runs through the whole event. They see the whole picture. If budget is a constraint, they will advise you how to economize and still achieve a similar look.

6. She will save your relationships.Weddings are very stressful. This stress often results in many arguments for couples as well as with family members and friends. Wedding planners have been there time and time again and know how to avoid such problems before they begin as well as act as a buffer when there are conflicts. Wedding planners are also able to take on the responsibilities often assigned to loved ones so that everyone is able to enjoy the wedding. Remember, you still want a relationship with your mother well after your wedding!

7. She will save you money, and who doesn’t like to save money?
Instead of relying on yourself to make the 73 phone calls and trips to the store to find the most gorgeous cake, perfect shoes, and affordable floral table arrangements, let the expert take the helm! A wedding planner has experience doing all of the things you are likely tackling for the first time, and one of those things is planning a party on a finite amount of cash. Let them sniff out the deals that suit your budget so you can be free to look after the myriad other things that need attention. Like you!

8. She will handle any crisis
Whether we like it or not, most big events involve crisis. Who really wants to deal on their wedding day with the bakery not delivering the cake on time or the flower girl throwing a tantrum? No one! Wedding planners know how to handle all unforeseen circumstances.
9. She is your Go-To Gal!
The average wedding has at least 22 different vendors. Combine that with the entire wedding party and all of the guests and that is a lot of people with questions and concerns! By hiring a wedding planner, couples can simply tell others “talk to the wedding planner!”

Picture your wedding day and really think about how you want to feel. Bets are that you do not want to feel anxious, harried, or on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Nor do you want to morph into the dreaded Bridezilla. You want to be as relaxed as possible, your mind free of concerns and fleeting panic, confident that everything is unfolding smoothly. This is the very essence of what a wedding planner does. They ensure that a timeline is tightly adhered to, that the ring-bearers have their rings, the photographer shows up on time, and the organist continues to play soothing music until it is time to crank out the Wedding March, all while you take a moment to appreciate the smell of your gardenia bouquet. Now, doesn’t that sound good…. So hire a planner today!

Comfort Food with a Twist!

One of the best parts of planning weddings for a foodie like me is seeing all of the creative ideas couples have to feed their guests. Often the food served at a wedding is placed on a lower scale of importance compared to decor, photography, flowers, etc. but let me tell you ,when a bride and groom serve great food at a wedding, it will be talked about for years. Some of my favorite wedding meals and appetizers are ones that are least expected. For example, a bride and groom once hired a local taco truck to serve their guest “late night munchies” around 10 PM when guests had already enjoyed a glass or two of wine. Another couple brought out mini burgers and fries for a late night snack as well. My favorite trend right now though, is serving comfort food with a twist. See the pictures below for some gourmet, delicious hamburgers, five star macaroni and cheese, and even a tomato soup hors devour with a small grilled cheese sandwich for dipping! How adorable and delicious! Your guests will devour every last bite. To me, great home style food that everyone loves… now that is money well spent.

Vintage Inspiration

I am one of those girls who, ever since I started playing with Barbie and Ken, was planning my future wedding. Since then, the wedding I have imagined has changed so much. It started out as a pink and white wedding with roses and the color pink all over; a la Trista and Ryan’s wedding from the Bachelorette TV show. It then changed to adding zebra and the color back, which coincidentally was the same theme as my college dorm. More recently, I dreamt of a garden wedding with a sunset color theme including oranges, yellows, greens, and purples. To be quite frank if my mother’s second wedding had not been just that, I would have probably still been riding that wedding train. For the past 2 years or so, I have come to the realization that my future wedding will be a vintage winery style wedding full of jewel tones, peacock feathers, and wine ! My favorite wedding blog, Vintage Glam Weddings, now Ruffled Blog, has helped to aid this dream. Whenever I come across a photo, collage, or concept that I love, I place it in my secret wedding box. When the day comes that I open that box, I know I will have my wedding planned in a snap! Included are a few photos from my personal stash. I hope you enjoy!
