Chanticlaire

Musician, Songwriter

Enigmatological Minstrel

Genre-defying Steampunk Vaudevillian Nerd-Folk

Imagine that you’ve found a small music box. It’s well crafted, handmade by someone well trained and thus you assume that you know what you’ll hear when you open this box; you expect to find the contents to be classical, light, and sweet. And while you’re not wrong, those are certainly elements to some of the music you hear, you make a tremendous discovery; the box is bigger on the inside! Within it, you find a treasure trove of whimsical, witty, and wry musical musings.

This is not a music box for children. And it is no trifle to keep on a shelf, but a deceptively decadent dessert trifle cake of music to be devoured and enjoyed. This is a music box for all of the grown-ups who were strange and unusual as children; the class clowns who were afraid of the dark, the shy kids who could wound you with their snark, and those of us who took “strange and unusual” as an honored trademark.

This metaphor is elementary of course my dear reader for anyone who is already a fan of Chanticlaire’s music; wonderfully so much more than you expected. Whether you’re seeing her perform live, or listening to her recordings, you will be delighted by her authentic unpretentious oratorical prowess paired with diverse musical influences and topical themes touching on everything from literature to sci-fi & fantasy pop culture, history, and flights of fancy. She likes to find humor in her everyday interests and so too do her fans, as we sing along with her to tunes about crustacean unrequited love, classical literary rap, rubber duckies, Hamilton and so much more!
